Postdoctoral Fellow

Brendan is a postdoctoral researcher in the Trang lab. His research goal is to help develop better treatments for opioid withdrawal by understanding how microglia are involved in producing withdrawal symptoms by altering communication between the brainstem and spinal cord. Before joining the Trang lab in 2022, Brendan completed a fellowship at the University of Lethbridge in the labs of Drs. Majid Mohajerani and Robert Sutherland, studying the neurobiology of memory and its disorders, particularly Alzheimer’s disease. Prior to that, Brendan received a PhD from the University of Calgary, where he worked with Dr. Richard Dyck researching the role of zinc in stress- and antidepressant-induced neuroplasticity. Outside the lab, Brendan enjoys playing the guitar, martial arts, homebrewing, and spending time with his wife and son.
